Messing about with track plans. A selection of Airfix 16t mineral wagons sit on the shelf above. My patented minimum radi measuring stick Trackwork going down. The tools of my trade are visible. Tracksaw, wood glue, pens, screwdrivers, measuring stick.. A couple of Dapol engine shed getting hacked into one building. I should have replaced the roof with plasticard and then there would have been no visble join. Ah well.. Reliving my youth through the use of the same kits I had back then. I've always loved hacking these engine shed kits about and couldn't resist doing it again on my return to the hobby. More trackwork and a riverbed has appeared. The sheds are being tested in position. A half built shark brakevan. I've built a few of these and have never resisted the urge to stick the finished ones on fleabay. I usually get in excess of 25 notes for them. I'm planning on keeping this one though. Scrathbuilt steel supports hold back the riverbanks. I can't finish the trackwork at this location until two bridges have been put in place. On my workbench: a half built shark, and a half built bridge. The sheds have been fitted with grain of wheat outside lights in place of the swan neck lights that come with the kits. Modelled on one at Portishead. Testing the sheds in position. The've been extended with the addition of half of a Wills crossing keepers cottage kit. Lighting going in the sheds and the grain of wheat bulbs have been replaced with LEDs Balsa wood kerbstones show where the main road is going go. The fiddle yard has been reduced to one track. A walthers overhead crane being tested for fit. To say it needs weathering is an understatement! On my workbench. a walthers overhead crane and more lighting being added to the sheds Many months later: A general view east along the layout. things are finally starting to slowly come together. The road (made from plaster) is now in place. Another long gap between modelling duties but finally I've got to do some experimentiing with ground cover. A mixture of woodland scenics, greenscene and my little 'uns acrylics. Oh, and rather harsh flash photography! The trackwork is still to be rusted at this spot. A Walthers cement works gets the pete lawson treatment The next stage of the cement works gets built. Testing everything in place for fit. Now i need to add hardstanding between the rails and give everything a coating of weathering powder. A rusty mineral wagon sits amongst the weeds. A station building starts to appear (based on Twerton in Bath). Foam board, styrene and balsa wood. The station building a week later. erm... Chinese superpower sits the other side of the rusty fence. An 08 peeks out from the cement works. General scruffiness of the workbench is very evident :) The loco gives away that the siding nearest the front of the layout is the DCC programing track. Testing the station building in place. The track isn't being ballasted until after this building has been completed. The bright yellow wall doesn't do this scene any favours and I've concluded that I need to work on a backscene next... Building arches to go next to the station building. Tools of the trade: Tesco Prune tin for the small arches. Tesco Vaseline tub for the larger road arch. Cutting tools, mat, prototype photo, girder bridge sections etc. Testing the now weathered station building and the arches in position. I'm pleased to say they're a perfect fit :) The station building has an unpainted aircon unit from Unit Models in one of the windows. In case you're wondering, the station itself is on the viaduct above the road.
